The defining scripture is this: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
Simply put, God the Father created our bodies, God the Son redeemed them, and God the Holy Spirit dwells with them, this makes our body the very temple of the Holy Spirit of God. Our bodies were created in the image of God, a gift from our Heavenly Father, which allows us to experience mortality and continue to become more and more like Him. Knowing this should influence us to treat our bodies and how we feel about our bodies as a precious gift.
When we actually treat our bodies as a temple we gain spiritual, physical and emotional blessings. You have to prepare your mind with knowledge of God by reading the word and studying it. With our physical bodies we should be aware of what we put into it, trying to refrain from foods and drink which will be harmful to us.
Emotionally, don't allow if at all possible for arguments to pursue to high levels, unforgiveness, and in general keep away from areas known to cause stress. In times of accidents, death and issues in life that are emotional. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Keep Jesus in the midst of your walk, good times and bad, he will help you thru all these areas, for He lives in you and your whole body is His temple. You have been bought and paid for by a precious price, so His love for you is higher than you can imagine. He is to be your center.
