You may or may not know that you are 'just right'. It might take you by surprise to know that God gave you the gift of righteousness, that means that we are just (justified) and made right.
I used to think: ‘How could I be called just?' ‘Righteous?’ ‘Have you seen how I behave?’ ‘How can God say I’m righteous?' Can you relate?
THE MEANING OF... RIGHTEOUS
I don’t mean to bore you, but I'm thinking that a few definitions will help (make it easier!) to understand the words Right·eous or what Righteousness means:
- To be in right standing with God. [a]
- Just, justice, right or justified. [b]
- A manner, state or condition … of being righteous. (Origin) [b]
- Justified: Having, done for, or marked by a good or legitimate reason. [c]
- Justified: Declared or made righteous in the sight of God. (Theology) [c]
- To show a sufficient lawful reason for an act done. [d]
WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US TO KNOW THAT WE ARE RIGHTEOUS?
You got a gift. You should know about it.
When it comes to being right with God or in right standing with Him, I think the first question that comes to mind is: Are you a believer?
A believer is someone who believes in their heart that Jesus is the Son of God, who died on the Cross. A believer knows that it is through Jesus how we receive forgiveness of sin and eternal life. We didn't do anything to deserve it. It is a gift of God's grace and love for us. You have to receive it by faith.
What Jesus did on the Cross, and with His resurrection makes possible for you and me not only have a new life but also access to all His promises and the gift of righteousness.
See, as a believer, you better believe that you are justified, just as if you never sinned! Healing, prosperity, freedom, they all apply to you. Those who believe, follow Jesus and His example. Jesus made it possible for us to be called righteous.
Knowing you are righteous – justified, it's a revelation!
Knowing we are righteous – that we are right with God will allow us to have a relationship with Him.
Knowing that you are in right standing with God will make you feel secure, able to stand in front of Him without a sense of guilt, condemnation or inferiority. It's hard, almost impossible for any of us to have a relationship with someone when we feel things are not right. Understanding that you have been made right with God through Jesus will give you the confidence to approach Him. See, there's no need to fear. 'It's all right!'
I realized that the more I know who I am in Christ, the better I understand that I am made right with Him. The way I approach Him now is different; I perceive Him in a more ‘healthy’ way, good and loving. The things (behaviors, attitudes, etc.) that I need to change are easier to embrace when I am assured of His love. God loves me. I can trust Him to help me without feeling condemned.
When we know we are right with someone; we are more open to having a relationship with them. The same goes for God. He wants to have a relationship with you. There is so much He wants to tell you. I promise, as you know God more and how much He loves you – you will trust Him more.
God doesn’t want us to feel “less than…” On the contrary, God wants us to know we have a Heavenly Father that cares for us – always! We can talk to Him about anything, anytime!
Giving my life to Jesus included the forgiveness of my past, present, and future sins. That means He knew I messed up, and it was going to happen again. This helped me to embrace Him even when I have done wrong.
It also gives me the comfort of knowing that He is there to help me, and not leave me hanging or forget me. God can be trusted.
Understanding that I am accepted and justified helps me to keep my heart open and allows God to cleanse me from the inside out. Confessing my sins clears the conscience and opens a way for intimacy. Now, my perception of Him is different. I think of Him not only as my Father. He is my friend, my help, the One I can count on.
My hope is that you would embrace Him and see for yourself who He is and how He sees you.
I can tell you that getting intimate with God will lead you into a quest. You will want more! I began to journal, recording questions, answers, thoughts, and impressions. It has become an adventure, a challenge to exchange my perspective for His way of thinking.
I learned how important is to study the Bible and to praise and worship Him (including singing, dancing, etc). I also learned to pray and declare His Word instead of praying mostly my own thoughts, ideas, and personal requests.
I was finally understanding what it was to be in His presence and to hear His voice. Life started to change, some things without me even realizing them. Thoughts patterns and behaviors were being revealed. Attitudes got better!
Things got interesting, they still are! Once it starts, the changes keep going. Even things that seemed they would never changed, they did... they will!
An intimate relationship with God will help you understand the big difference between the way He thinks about you, and how you think about yourself! At first, I couldn't believe that God gave me a gift so amazing as to be right with Him - that I am just right!
The key is to simply believe that what God says is the Truth. If His Word says that through Jesus you are made righteous, then you are!
Knowing you are righteous is a gift that gives you peace.
I used to feel like God didn't like me. I now know He not only loves me, wants the best for me. Thinking that God is on my side gives me peace and assurance even in my hardest moments in life. No matter what goes on... He is my Father, and I am His daughter!
When I realized that God is at peace with me, it erased the thoughts that He was angry with me. Maybe you've felt like that too. God is not mad at you. Be at peace, God is a good God. Even when He disciplines us, it is because He loves us.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE JUST RIGHT?
Believing what God says – that you are just right, it's a revelation. Revelation makes us hungry for more revelation! Accepting the gift of righteousness made me think: What other things don't I know about God? What else does God say about me?
Think about this! Now that you are realizing you are just right - in right standing with God. Maybe you are ready to embrace other things God say about you, like: You are positioned, accepted, resurrected, forgiven, beautiful, free.
